Historical sites

Punda is the oldest neighborhood of Willemstad , the capital of Curaçao .

Originally the district was called De Punt, which in Papiamento was translated as Punta and later corrupted to Punda.

Punda is located east of St. Anna Bay , and together with Otrobanda forms the historic city center of Willemstad. The eighteenth-century houses here are frequently photographed.

The district is the main shopping area of Willemstad, and also has several museums.

Punda has been connected to Otrobanda since 1886 via a wooden pontoon bridge and since 1974 also via Juliana Bridge.

Punda and Otrobanda are since 1997 on the World Heritage List of UNESCO .
